Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University was established on the basis of City Medical Training Center. HCM (TTĐTBDCBYT TP.HCM) dated 08-01-2008.
Previously, right from the establishment in 1989, TTĐTBĐTB Hồ Chí Minh City was assigned the task as a Medical University of Hồ Chí Minh City, so during the 20-year development process, TTĐĐTBĐ previously and now Pham Ngoc Thach, Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University trained 14 courses including more than 1422 regular general practitioners participating in the city’s health system. Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University is a multidisciplinary, multi-level school within the health sciences sector, responsible for training health human resources with undergraduate, postgraduate and under-graduate qualifications for work. protect, care for and improve the health of the community in Ho Chi Minh City; proceeding to become a key medical research and training facility in the southern region of the country.

Currently the school has 42 departments with 330 organic lecturers, including 01 professor, 5 associate professors, 23 doctors, 96 masters, and many specialist doctors of level I and II. The school has relatively good facilities located on 2 hectares of land in the center of District 10 Tp. Ho Chi Minh City, with its lecture hall and modernly equipped laboratories, in which there are leading advanced labs such as biology laboratory, biochemistry laboratory – molecular biology, anatomy laboratory. study … and in the near future, with the investment interest of the HCM City People’s Committee, many large investment projects will be implemented. The school has a very good practice hospital system including 24 general hospitals – specialized hospitals under the City and a quite complete community field system.
The school also has a good tradition in international relations: Cooperation with France in the FFI training program (implementing the role of resident physician in France), FMC (continuous medical training), cooperation program with AUF, the program of cooperation with the University Development Organization of the Belgian Kingdom (CUD) in the third period (each phase costs about 1.5 million Euros). The University also signed a comprehensive cooperation with the University of Liège (Belgium), Mainz University (Germany), and has a partnership with many universities around the world.
Being aware of his role in providing health human resources to the City, Cardinal Pham Ngoc Thach tried to expand the scale of training but still ensure and gradually improve the quality.
